Effectiveness of Community-Based Programs on Aggressive Behaviors among Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

概 要
Given the high prevalence of aggressive behavior and its adverse psychosocial effects on the development of children and adolescents, a number of studies have examined the effectiveness of anti-aggression interventions. The present study conducts a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effectiveness of community-based programs in reducing the frequency of aggressive behaviors among children and adolescents. Fifteen studies are selected from twelve electronic databases (e.g., EBSCO, PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science) and included in the meta-analysis. Findings reveal that existing community-based programs have significant effects on aggressive behaviors (standard mean differences [SMD] = −0.26, 95 % CI [−0.39, −0.13]). Moreover, the effects of interventions are significantly moderated by family involvement, sample size, and theoretical basis. However, the effects of intervention do not differ by duration and number of intervention sessions. This review provides practical implications for designing and improving community-based anti-aggression interventions.
